SCBWI Europolitan started when five regions in continental Europe (Belgium+Luxembourg, France, Germany+Austria, Switzerland and The Netherlands) decided to combine forces in order to bring their membership a conference packed with workshops, presentations and opportunities to share work.
The inaugural Europolitan conference was held in Paris in 2013. Following its success, future conferences were planned to take place on a bi-annual schedule, with each participating country hosting the conference in turn. The second and third conferences, held in Amsterdam and Brussels, solidified Europolitan’s reputation for offering conferences with valuable content presented by outstanding faculty from the US, UK and international publishing world. The Europolitan conferences also create opportunities for networking and support amongst the broader European membership. We’re looking forward to our fourth conference in Zürich May 4-5, 2019.
In between the Europolitan conferences, the sense of community is kept alive with our annual Summer Scrawl Crawl. Taking place on the summer solstice, each region hosts one or more local meet-ups in an inspiring location where members can spend time sketching and writing. Photos and posts from the day are shared online. In addition, there are several facebook groups for Europolitan attendees and regional members to network and share.
In 2018 the Europolitan Mentor Program was launched. This is yet another example of how, working together under the Europolitan initiative, our regions are able to provide programs that our individual regions alone couldn’t offer.
