CONSULTATIONS

Initially, each conference attendee may sign up for one (1) individual 10-minute Portfolio or Manuscript Consultation for an additional fee of CHF 50  (SCBWI members) or CHF 65 (non-members). If consultation slots are still available on April 1, 2018, we will send an email to everyone who has registered to attend the conference, announcing that it is possible to register for additional critiques.

Select the faculty member you wish to have your Portfolio or Manuscript Consultation with when registering. Space is limited and will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Consultations must be paid for at the same time as booking the conference.

Manuscript & Portfolio Consultation Guidelines

Please be sure to read the following very carefully before submitting your manuscript. If you are unsure about anything for the manuscript consultation, please mail us with any questions.

1. You must register for the conference before you submit your manuscript or portfolio.

2. All manuscript or portfolio submissions must be sent by email to our email address.

3. Your manuscript or portfolio must ARRIVE in the mailbox ON or BEFORE Sunday, March 31, 2019. Manuscripts or portfolios received after March 31 cannot be accepted.

4. You may submit ONE of the following for critique:

* 1 picture book dummy

* 1 picture book manuscript

* 10 images from your portfolio

* 10 pages from a chapter book, middle grade or young adult project

5. Format ALL manuscripts in a 12-point Times New Roman font, double spaced, 1 inch margins all around. More formatting questions? Read From Keyboard to Printed Page.

6. ALL manuscript submissions must include a title page with your contact information and the reading level of your manuscript (YA, MG, Chapter Book, PB).

  • Note it must be only one reading level, (e.g. there is no MG/YA, it is either MG or YA).
  • If you are represented by an agent, please note that on the title page as well.
  • The title page does NOT count as one of your ten pages.

7. The name on your manuscript must match the name you registered under, even if you write under a pseudonym.

8. For Picture Books: Submit ONE picture book manuscript. No synopsis is needed.

9. For Picture Book Dummies: submit ONE dummy in digitalized format. You may bring a physical dummy to the consultation.

10. For Portfolios: submit scans (file size no larger than 5 MB) of up to ten pages from your portfolio. You may bring the printed portfolio with you to your consultation. SCBWI members can find further tips on scanning portfolio or dummy images in The Book.

11. For middle grade, young adult, and chapter books: Submit only the first TEN (10) pages, even if it cuts off mid-chapter. If you would like to include a synopsis (max. 250 words), you may do so on the cover page. The synopsis will not be critiqued, it is just there to give an overview of your manuscript.
